Day 24 ~ The Purpose Driven Life ~ The Edict of Truth Issued by Christ!

Day 24 ~ The Purpose Driven Life ~ Transformed by Truth

The Edict of Truth Issued by Christ!

Are you slaves to Christ or are you adorned as sons of the Father? For slaves hear the commands of the master but sons and daughters of the Father replicate with gladness and joy the household rules as that is theirs to keep and comes from the heart. Sons and daughters of God are heirs of this heritage and it is their pride and joy.

Jesus said, “A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:35-36 (BSB)

“THE TRUTH TRANSFORMS US.
Spiritual growth is the process of replacing lies with truth. Jesus prayed, “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.” John 17:17 (NIV)  Sanctification requires revelation. The Spirit of God uses the Word of God to make us like the Son of God. To become like Jesus, we must fill our lives with his Word. The Bible says, “Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.” 2 Timothy 3:17 (MSG)
God’s Word is unlike any other word. It is alive. (Hebrew 4: 12; Acts 7: 38; 1 Peter 1: 23.)”
 (PDL – Rick ©)

Jesus said ; “The words I have been speaking to you are truths which are the spirit of life.” John 6:63b (Para)

There is no doubt that the source of our knowledge of God  lies in his Word. As does the source of our knowledge of Christ lie in his word. The ultimate and all-encompassing word that we are presented is primarily the Bible. The question that begs to be answered is not whether the Bible is true but rather is the Bible that we are presented the true Word of God?

geneva-bible-1560-hendrickson-3

The Bible is truly a very dangerous book. Even a corrupted and broken Bible, such as relied on by the Muslim faith, can motivate people to heights of dangerous evil. Under the veil of Christianity, there have been many quasi-justified acts of violence. Catholicism has marred the Christian faith for centuries from the time of Constantine 1 the Roman Emperor who in 313 legalise Christianity throughout the Roman Empire. This is the birthplace of the Roman Catholic Church. Unfortunately,  it’s hierarchical system reintroduced the temple model across the globe. Yet, this temple model was the principal form of worship that Jesus had opposed. Hence we had the Reformation by Martin Luther, who was actually a Roman Catholic ordained priest, in 1517.

“These impulses merge in one particular branch of Christianity that ‘began’ on October 31, 1517, when a young Augustinian monk named Martin Luther challenged the church hierarchy of his day by posting 95 complaints on the door of the Wittenberg Church in Germany. Protestantism was born.” (Quoted from https://bible.org/seriespage/1-wycliffe-king-james-period-challenge)

The above was quoted from a brilliant exposition of the development of the English Bible. The article explores the various Bibles that have emerged since the Reformation. It is important to know the truth, and above all, it is really important to know that the Bible that you are using comes from a reliable source and is not tainted or skewed by some unfounded religious doctrine.
Catholicism, Islam, Jehovah’s Witness, Mormons (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) and Judaism etc… are using versions of the Bible’s which have been adapted to support their doctrine. Although Judaism uses the original old Testament as their source document they deny the existence of the new Testament and Christ. Therefore there is also an incomplete Bible and they put you under the Mosaic law. The whole new Testament cries out against the temple model and the freedom from the Mosaic law.

Although the King James version of the Bible, produced in 1611 is revered as trustworthy it is truly marred by the fact that it relied in its Scripture, in most cases, from the very man that the establishment had burned at the stake for trying to make the Bible available to the commoner. Further, there are clear doctrinal interpretations in this Bible to align it with the temple model.

In 1526 William Tyndall produced the first complete translation from the original Greek of the new Testament. He also translated in 1530 the first 14 books of the old Testament into common English. He was hunted by Catholics and the Church of England. Eventually he was caught and burnt at the stake for trying to make the word of God available to the common Englishman. He was quoted saying of the pope, “If God spare my life, ere many yeares I wyl cause a boy that driveth the plough to know more of the Scripture, than he doust.”
“In 1535, Tyndale was arrested and jailed in the castle of Vilvoorde (Filford) outside Brussels for over a year. In 1536, he was convicted of heresy and executed by strangulation, after which his body was burnt at the stake. His dying prayer was that the King of England’s eyes would be opened; this seemed to find its fulfilment just two years later with Henry’s authorisation of the Great Bible for the Church of England, which was largely Tyndale’s own work. Hence, the Tyndale Bible, as it was known, continued to play a key role in spreading Reformation ideas across the English-speaking world and, eventually, to the British Empire.” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Tyndale)

tyndal-legacy

So in 1611, the King James version of the Bible is published using 90% or more of Tindale’s work in the new Testament as well as the books which he had translated directly from the Hebrew in the old Testament and not a word about the source or any acknowledgement of the great contribution this man had paid for with his life.

Despite this God’s word comes off the pages of the King James and changes lives, not so much because of the Bible itself but because of who God is.

The indwelling Spirit of our most High Triune God will not be halted by mans imperfections.

Know the truth. The truth is the word of God. If you are truly seeking God, you will find him through his word. But above all know the truth, search and find the whole truth!

Day 23 ~ The Purpose Driven Life ~ Light the Essence of Eternal Spiritual Growth

Day 23 ~ The Purpose Driven Life ~ How We Grow

Light the Essence of Eternal Spiritual Growth

Are you inflicted with an all encompassing degenerate disease?

dark-to-light

There is an inescapable truth about life. Nothing ever stands still. We cannot stop time. It simply marches on ticking away second by second.

Within the darkness of this world everything is in decay. It has even been found that the DNA of mankind is actually in decay. (Science discovers our genome in decay – Mankind is on the path to extinction)

Man is in perpetual search of trying to stop his body from ageing or finding a way to rollback the degradation of his physical attributes. That is the natural darkness of this world that slowly envelops us.

Spending time with God invigorates our spirit. Most amazingly growth of our spiritual life runs contrary to the degrading effects of this world. When faith turns into absolute truth, administered by the hand of God, the boundaries of light carried into darkness are continually pressed back and our spirit is in continual growth, all decline of the spirit is reversed.

holding-time

“We are gifted with enlightenment from Christ. You are set to display life’s excellence cloaked in the vestiges of Christ. Explore and live the adventure of faith!
Imagine the extreme dedication and focus of a conductor of music; how he would diligently acquaint himself with every individual voice in the choir, as well as the contribution of every specific instrument, to follow the precise sound represented in every single note in order to give maximum credit to the original composition. This is exactly what it means to exhibit the divine character. You are the choir conductor of your own life. Familiarise yourselves with every ingredient that faith unfolds! See there how elevated you are, and from within this position (of your co-seatedness in Christ), enlightened perspective will dawn within you.”  2 Peter 1:5 Para . Adapted from the Mirror Bible.

Lighting the flame of our spirit by sparking it with Jesus Christ grows our spirit against the march of time. By not being in Christ our spirit is going to be in step with the decline imposed by this world. If we have not found the light, and age in accordance with the imposed life in the natural world, our hearts harden and our minds become cynical because of the lack of hope. That is true darkness.

Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12b (BSB)

cross-light

We cannot grow or move on in a relationship without spending time on that relationship. This is also very true about our relationship with God. What of our time do we allocate to that relationship? Is it our most precious time? Is it all the time? Do we slip away to have time with God? The relationship we have with Him will be reflected in the type of time and the amount of time that we are in His presence, and in the presence of His saints.

This is also true about all our relationships. Any and all relationships are either growing or in decline. They cannot and will not stand still. The only variable in the growth or decline of relationships is the rate at which it is happening, The rate at which the relationship grows or declines is determined by the time spent or not spent on the relationship. Our lives are very much about which relationships we relish, it is those relationships we will allocate our dearest resource to, namely time.

We are all inflicted with a degenerate disease but at least we who are in Christ know that our spirit is secure and the darkness will not overcome it. (John 1:5)

Jesus said, “All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.” John 6:37 (ESV)

Day 22 ~ The Purpose driven Life ~ In The Image of God

Day 22 ~ The Purpose Driven Life ~ Created to Become Like Christ.

Know that you were created in the image of God!

There is this one great amazing feature that all mankind has and it is the one natural God talent that we display and use all the time in our lives. It is this talent that distinguishes us from all life on earth and it is because of this God-like talent that we are able to continually change and adabt the enviroment in which we live. Read this and I promise you will discover something new!

The sequence  of the heading of this chapter “Day 22 in The Purpose Driven Life – Created to Become Like Christ.” is incorrect. It is out of sorts with the Bible. Firstly we were created in the image of God. It is preordained that we will find our true identity in conforming to the image of Christ. Our alpha is God, our existence is Christ, our omega is the Holy Spirit.

Genesis 1:26 – 27 “then God said, ‘let us make man in our image, in our likeness…’ ‘God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female…'”

Psalm 140:30 “When You send forth Your Spirit and give them breath, they are created, and You replenish the face of the ground.”

As a note in the Amplified Bible when reflecting on the image which God used, it quotes the full tri-unity of God, God the Father, God the son, God the Holy Spirit.

It is not that we were created to become like Christ. Firstly we are created as an image reflection of God.  God has equipped us with the potential to become like Christ. However, it is our choice whether we clothe ourselves with Christ-being.

To realise and be able to tap into a fuller existence in our minuscule time on this earth we need to be in Christ because “it is  in Him we live and move and have our being, we are indeed his offspring!” Acts 17:28.

Then one of the greatest gifts which God imparted to man gives him supremacy on this earth. This ability is often overlooked.

kids-creation

And it is the one thing that segregates us and makes us unique in many ways from all other creatures that wander this earth.

In Genesis 1 God creates. He creates in such abundance that mankind will continue to study the creation of God for ever. Science is nothing more and nothing less than man finding out more about God’s creation. Every now and then we claim as humans accolades for having discovered something new! That new thing was created by God many many many years ago. All that new discovery does is it puts us on a never ending ladder to the next discovery. The greatest joke is that we only find out that our new discovery has another new discovery to be found?

einstine

And all the scientists out there are forever trying to outmanoeuvre God by denying him his proper rightful place as a mind far superior to theirs.

“Your hand will find out all your enemies; your right hand will find out those who hate you.
You will make them as a blazing oven when you appear. The LORD will swallow them up in his wrath, and fire will consume them.
You will destroy their descendants from the earth, and their offspring from among the children of man.
Though they plan evil against you, though they devise mischief, they will not succeed.
For you will put them to flight; you will aim at their faces with your bows.
Be exalted, O LORD, in your strength! We will sing and praise your power.” Psalm 21:8-13 (ESV)

“he too will drink the wine of God’s anger, poured undiluted into the cup of His wrath. And he will be tormented in fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb.” Revelation 14:10 (BSB)

So what then is probably the most amazing likeness to God that we possess? It is the creativity, the ability to make something from nothing. The one stamp that we all take for granted that makes us so very unique from everything else that wonders this earth is our amazing ability to be able to create something new, gather all the bits and pieces needed and then make something. Essentially making something new from nothing.

Creativity is not copying and making. That is facsimile. Creating is not gathering and holding in our databanks tons and tons of data, analysing the data and then making a statistical analysis. That is computing.

Computers will only take over the world when they can create. Even if we put all the computing power in the world together today it can only work on data that it has collected. Then for anything useful to come from that data the computer has to directed as to what is relevant. It then spews out “a best match result” from the data.

Yet your mind can create scenarios, analyse those scenarios, and create the best possible solution without the data. How absolutely amazing is that?

Creating is thinking and having inspiration for something which has never existed. So even in the smallest measure when we make a dress from scratch, although we will be copying a style there will be something new in the creation of the dress.

Stand amazed and know that you were made in the image of God. The greatest glorification of God is you living in Christ-likeness.

The ability to create, and to be creative, is not something that can evolve. Evolution theory is as a result of the creative mind. God created you and imparted His creativity to establish your supremacy in His universe.

During our lives, we tap into this God-given resource but don’t even know it. Creativity is the Genesis of all technological advancement and it enriches our lives every day in small and great measures. It is the start of something new and exciting. It drives mankind to exploring God’s universe. It helps Mom bake a new recipe. It searches for a new route to school, it tests the boundaries of our existence to find new horizons.

The source of everything we do new has to start with an impartation of creativity. Now, what does God’s word the Bible do? It starts at the very beginning explaining to us that God created for us to be where we are today. Another great testimony of the authenticity of the word given to us through the Bible.

Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning God created…..”

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made, and without Him nothing was made that has been made. In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:1-5 (BSB)

Discover your true identity. This was so beautifully put in the Mirror Bible that when I read Romans 8:28 I could not resist putting it here for your good pleasure;

“He pre-designed and engineered us from the start to be jointly fashioned in the same mold and image of his son according to the exact blueprint of his thought. We see the original and intended pattern of our lives preserved in his Son. He is the firstborn from the same womb that reveals our genesis. He confirms that we are the invention of God.” Romans 8:28 (Mirror Bible)

Day 21 ~ The Purpose Driven Life ~ Churches lacking in love is simply religion

Day 21 ~ The  Purpose Driven Life ~ Protecting Your Church

The all-encompassing law of Christ is love.

There is one great command in the Bible, and it is displayed from Genesis to Revelation. We are  to love. The common world thinks of love as a warm fuzzy feeling. The love in the Bible has consequences and it calls you to action. If your love  for God, the complete Trinity, and the love for those around you is not displayed in action beyond your eco-testicle requirements then you are not bearing the fruit called for by Christ. You have to have luvacta!

You are the body of Christ. When we adorn ourselves with Jesus Christ we are going to change. This is the consequence of your Christ-likeness. The promised internal change of heart has to be lived out to the world surrounding you. If your compatriots and family cannot see the workings of Christ in you then there is still a lot of realignment that needs to take place.

church

It is so easy to declare love, it is so hard to display love. Sometimes love calls us to do things that are uncomfortable and difficult. The new Testament is mainly silent on Jesus’s discomfort from his point of view. Next time you read John 4, think about the walk in the hot desert sun for 40 miles from Judea to Sychar. Jesus must have been hurting, tired dirty and thirsty when he sat down at the well. Yet none of this is recorded, his focus then centres not on his own well-being but on the Samaritan woman who he engages in a spiritual conversation.

“Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness. When He saw the crowds, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.…” Matthew 9:35 (BSB)

Not a word about how tired he was after all this healing and travelling but we are focused on his compassion.

Nowhere in the new Testament do the critics of Christ talk about him resting. On the contrary, they criticise him and his disciples for working on the day of rest. See Mark 2:22-24.

“So the Pharisees said to Him, “Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath?”…” Mark 2:24

It is when we get to Gethsemane when Jesus was about to face the wrath of God for all of us that we hear the suffering within his soul.

“Then they came to a place called Gethsemane, and Jesus told His disciples, “Sit here while I pray.”

He took with Him Peter, James, and John, and began to be deeply troubled and distressed. And He told them, “My soul is consumed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch.”

Going a little farther, He fell to the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour would pass from Him. “Abba, Father,” He said, “all things are possible for You. Take this cup from Me. Yet not what I will, but what You will.”

Then Jesus returned and found them sleeping. “Simon, are you asleep?” He asked, “Were you not able to keep watch for one hour? Watch and pray so that you will not enter into temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak.” Mark 14: 32 – 38 (BSB)

The lamentation of Christ is visioned by David through the very eyes of Jesus as he hangs on the cross in Psalm 22.

We can never understand fully, or in our wildest dreams contemplate what Christ was about to do for our salvation and righteousness.

Father God was about to crush him : But the LORD was pleased To crush Him, putting Him to grief; If He would render Himself as a guilt offering,…” Isaiah 53:10a (NASB) (more .. Isaiah 53)

Jesus was crushed body and soul for you and I. He, complained nought.

The unity of the body of Christ is reflected and achieved in our ability to live out the love demanded of us by Christ. That love cannot come fully into fruition without a Spiritual internalisation by Christ.

The love of 1 Corinthians 13 should be your guiding light. Not as in the KJV but in a modern more accurate bible that is not based on the temple model:

Love

“If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a ringing gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have absolute faith so as to move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.  If I give all I possess to the poor and exult in the surrender of my body, but have not love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no account of wrongs.  Love takes no pleasure in evil, but rejoices in the truth.  It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be restrained; where there is knowledge, it will be dismissed. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect comes, the partial passes away.
When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I set aside childish ways. Now we see but a dim reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love; but the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13 (BSB)

Get loving and display it with luvacta!

Day 20 ~ The Purpose driven Life ~ God restored His relationship with Us

Day 20 ~ The Purpose Driven Life ~ Restoring Broken Fellowship

God through Christ must claim the greatest restoration
of fellowship there is.

In “The Purpose Driven Life” by Rick Warren on day 20 we examine the restoration of broken fellowship. When reading through this chapter in the book it came to me that what has to be the greatest restoration of fellowship was actually what God had done to redeem his fellowship with man.

fingers

It is obviously important to realise that God in his all knowing would have understood that man could not fulfil the Mosaic law. What is interesting however is that God expected more from his creation than even we could realise. The old Testament is the shadow of expectation of the coming Christ.

God wrote history to encompass the full miracle of the Messiah. Then, gracious and abundantly good God took man’s hand and recorded that history in the book we call the old Testament.

In the Old Testament, we are presented with God the eternal father and creator and glimpses of the Holy Spirit, and Christ’s shadow falls backwards on this period. God conducts history in a proclamation of the coming Messiah.

The Exodus reflects God’s release of the Jews from a regime by the final act of the sacrifice of the lamb. Exodus 12 The blood of the lamb on the doorposts of the Jewish homes protects the incumbent families from the wrath of the reaper of the firstborns. This act on the night of Passover is the nail in the coffin which convinces Pharaoh that God’s people should leave Egypt.

1500 years later, the Jewish people, under the Mosaic law, were struggling and in dire straits after years of occupation by Babylon and the subsequent invasion by the Roman Empire. God at this stage had withdrawn many of his blessings which had rested on the temple. His presence as a cloud had waned, the holy of holies had been stripped of its ornaments and the Ark of the covenant was lost in history.

Then God sends His Son chosen to be the sacrificial unblemished lamb  that would be crucified to restore relationship with God across all the nations of the earth.

John 1:29b John the baptist said,“Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.”

Look also at ; (Matthew 3:13-17; Mark 1:9-11; Luke 3:21-22)

The covenant given to Abraham (Genesis 12:1-3) and referred to in Galatians 3:16 “The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. The Scripture does not say, “and to seeds,”meaning many, but “and to your seed,” meaning One, who is Christ.” (BSB) is the ultimate restoration of the relationship between God and man.

And then, if it is not enough that we can be declared righteous through the blood of Christ, this reconciliation gift from God gets even better. And as my faithful and wonderful wife would say there is a “But wait!”

God says “But wait!” God says “I will leave you my helper and advocate!”.
Man replies “What? So we can approach him asking questions to get help from him?”
God says “No, but wait. It gets even better I am going to put him inside you?”
Man asks “What? And what would he be doing there?”
God says “He will represent me God the Father and my son Jesus Christ.!”

And all man has to do, is submit his ear and accept this gift in all its abundance from our most gracious God.

And so God trumps us on restoration and leads by example with true luvacta.

Day 19 ~ The Purpose Driven Life ~ Lay bare your Christianity to the world

Day 19 ~ The Purpose Driven Life ~ Cultivating Community

Lay Bare You’re Christianity to the World ~ Let them see Christ!

“For none of us lives to himself alone, and none of us dies to himself alone.” Romans 14:7 (BSB)

As you sit there reading this, you are the centre to which all information flows and the encircled embodiment from which you will touch the world around you today.

Every one of us has a certain number of hanger-on’ers that feed off our existence. These hanger-on’ers may be husbands, parents, children and one type of family or the other. It may amaze you if you stand still for a moment and think of how many people you will interact with in one way or the other through your and their physical presence, but also far beyond through your cyber existence. At the time when the Bible was written, both old and new Testaments, the reach of the common man was no further than his breath could carry. Progressively, our privacy is now in this modern time increasingly inundated with cyber noise from the interaction of the world surrounding us.

Purify and sanction what you feed your mind and soul. Keep proper and righteous cyber company and physical company. Do not allow the evil one access to your attention. Protect yourself by turning him off and walking away.

toxic_waste

“Living clean in a contaminated world.

You wouldn’t intentionally eat or drink poison that could harm or destroy your body. Yet you may be consuming poison that’s hazardous to your soul without even realising it.

Toxic attitudes, behaviours, and cultural influences that you allow into your life put your soul in danger. You can’t avoid contact with such toxins in this fallen world, but you don’t have to be contaminated by them. You can detoxify your soul and start experiencing the pure life that God wants you to enjoy. Here’s how:

Realise that everything counts. Absolutely everything that you allow into your mind and life has on impact on how you grow or don’t grow spiritually. The little choices that you make every day add up to a significant effect on your soul. So take your everyday decisions seriously.

Identify the lies that have deceived you, and replace them with the truth. Examine your life for toxic: behaviours (what you do that harms your spiritual effectiveness or distracts you from God’s purposes for your life), emotions (feelings that lead you away from God’s truth), and consumptions (media you consume and people you spend time with). Ask God to give you the wisdom you need to discern which of all of those are toxic to you.”  (Information from “10 Ways to Detoxify Your Soul Right Now” – L1)

Your identity is manifested by what flows out from you to the people who interact with you. How is it that we could be under the misconception that we determine our identity? As we walk through the day we are very much like a chameleon changing our visible form to suit the environment of the present time. Is what you present the truth about who and what you are?

Unfortunately, the facade that we present to others is often for our own protection and enhancement of our safety. Safety from their gossip, safety to us that we do not want to be drawn into uncomfortable discussions, and safety that we do not want to be taken to places where there is a lot of hurt.

Lay bare your Christianity to the world.

“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God with your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (BSB)

Link into fellow Christians and intentionally build the right community for you and your family to live in.

“No person can live in isolation; our life does and will touch others.
Neither can nor will our life or death distance us from Christ for we are and remain his property. The father has given us to him.
The death that Jesus died and his resurrection is our ultimate inclusion and the only relevance of our life and death.
Nothing qualifies us to judge others or condemn them. We can only stand in the footprint of Christ.
It is recorded by the prophet that he heard God say “My very life is the guarantee of my conviction, Every knee shall bow to me in worship, and the whole earth will spontaneously speak in worship and affirmation from the same God inspired origin.” ~

{Shadow ; “Turn to me and be saved,
all the ends of the earth!
For I am God, and there is no other.
By myself I have sworn;
from my mouth has gone out in righteousness
a word that shall not return:
‘To me every knee shall bow,
every tongue shall swear allegiance.’ Isaiah 45:22-23 (ESV)}

~ For this very reason the logic of God will be found  in you” Romans 14:7-12 (Para)

Day 18 ~ The Purpose Driven life ~ One Another One Anothering.

Day 18 ~ The Purpose Driven Life ~ Experiencing Life Together

Knowledge of God that bears no fruit has no value.

Essentially on day 17 we discussed in brief, the ideal structure for a person to be in when in the body of Christ. Namely, a family environment which is God centred, a supporting small group partnership focused on common goals, a church and worship environment which extends beyond the group.

When Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”  sMatthew 4:4 (BSB) he was clearly referring to our spiritual life. If we reflect on the season of Jesus’s life at the time that this quote was given it is clear that the shadow experience of Israel wandering in the desert for 40 years (see s1 below) was a maturing realisation that we need to base our trust and faith on a sustained God life.

If our study of God’s word does not result in us bearing fruit then it becomes purely an academic exercise. It is impossible for a person to be born again by the spirit and not bear fruit as a result of the rebirth. This process internalises God. When God has been internalised you cannot but externalise through your actions the change effected by the Holy Spirit. Vice versa if your life does not display the fruit of God you have not experienced the rebirth.

There is a brilliant study by John Piper where he examines our security in regard to our salvation in Hebrews 3:12-14 which explains why some people fall away from God. What he exposes in these scripts ring true in my spirit and is really worth our time to study.  Below are the links for the two studies that follow each other on the subject;

Being part of the body of Christ, his church, which involves your companionship with his saints is critically important for your continual growth and exploration of the word of God. John 15:8 cannot be ignored as a measure This is to My Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, proving yourselves to be My disciples.”

Note, it does not say bear fruit, it says bear MUCH fruit. Clearly  your inclusion and participation in a small group and being part of “one another one anothering” will both bear witness and give you the sustenance for your spirit so that you can get fat on the word of God!

Day 17 ~ The Purpose Driven Life ~ A Place to Belong

Day 17 ~ The Purpose Driven Life ~ A Place to Belong.

The apostle Paul wrote in Ephesians 3:4-6  “In reading my words you will understand my insight into the amazing mystery of Christ. In no previous generation, the time before Christ, has there ever been a more comprehensive and detailed understanding of the full consequence of the grace and gift from God. It is now being uncovered in the Spirit of his ambassadors who have brought the prophetic promise into full view!
Mankind, the inhabitants of Earth, may now realise that the prophetic word is fulfilled in them! Both the prophets of the old Testament saw and prophesied this in advance and apostles who claimed this sanctioned in Christ. The essence of what I, Paul, see reveals the fact that the complete multitude of humanity are joined participants in the same inheritance (included in the heirs of Abraham together with Israel) we are all part of one and the same body in Christ.
The good news is that God’s promise is equally relevant and applicable to all”. Para Mirror Bible

If you were born into a God minded Christian family and grew up in this type of structure it is a real blessing. Unfortunately, most people today enter and find a link into the church not through a singular minded Christian dedicated family but are led there by friends or interaction at different levels with the church of Christ. The problem is that the God inspired life is not of this world.

Jesus is prayer for his disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane “.. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. .. “ John 17:16 (BSB)

“If the world hates you, understand that it hated Me first. If you were of the world, it would love you as its own. Instead, the world hates you, because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world.” John 15:18-19 (BSB)

In the perfect DoC world your primary family will have its roots in the biblical core of a father (human and God), mother and siblings all following Christ. This should be your first exposure to the house of God. Not so very common in our modern secular world.

Then you should belong to a small group. People who explore God’s word with you but also form an extended Christ like-minded group of people whom you can call on when life gets tuff. They are the type of Christians that will stop at nothing to be with you in prayer and support, not shunning from helping out where and when ever. The group should also be creating opportunities for you to be able to worship in a form and level that feeds your Christianity.

Your further contact with God  should also manifest itself in the church that serves God in an accurate biblical form. NOT praying through Mary, baptising babies, exploring and focusing on prosperity gospels and or working out your salvation based on bastardised Bibles that have been altered and do not resemble the true Word of God.

We are not called into seclusion by Christ. What would be the point of that? As His followers, we are called to live the life of Christ in full view of the world. As the song goes “no turning back”. You cannot be an undercover Christian. That does not serve Christ in the way he intended his disciples to do. Try telling at least three people today that you are a passionate follower of Jesus Christ. Cry out to the Holy Spirit that you live that life you have as an example of this proclamation.

It is our obligation as Christians to proclaim to the world in the way that we love our triune God firstly,
secondly the loving family we form in the Spirit
and thirdly the loving hand we extend to the world
that we are true followers of Christ.

Christ’s law is based on loving our God with all our body soul mind strength, and then displaying our love for one another. Be in no doubt that he left us these commands;

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:30-31 (BSB)

“A new commandment I give you:Love one another. As I have loved you, so also you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.”  John 13:34 (BSB)

Your life here on earth ends in many ways when you join the church of Christ in spirit. By receiving the gift of Christ from God you eternalise your full inheritance.

Day 16 ~ The Purpose Driven Life ~ Law keeping turns love into charity

Day 16 ~ The Purpose Driven Life ~ Law keeping turns love into charity

Law keeping turns love into charity

In an earlier blog I mentioned the fact that all religions apart from Christianity have some sort of goalkeeping purpose, which when achieved rewards you with heaven or eternity. Unfortunately Catholicism breaks two commands of God, the first being that you shall have no other gods before me, you shall not bow down to any other gods, so praying to Mary, Paul Saint Anthony and all these others are a direct violation of the prime directive. The second problem with Catholicism is that it centres on actions which the perpetrator of God’s law needs to fulfil to keep in good standing with God. This is in violation of the new Testament, the new Testament makes it clear that it is not by works that we are given our salvation but by grace alone.

Firstly, Jesus came to breakdown the old temple model, which included sacrifice and penance. Catholicism, and many other religions including the Islamic faith is based on the maintenance of the temple model.

When the primary law in the religion centres on your ability to keep a set of rules, possibly written on stone, your psyche becomes materialistic in the worst possible way. The church, such as Catholicism, maintain their coffers by getting you to pay penance feeding off man’s natural instinct to worship God. If the priest or imam tells you that you have to do this, or pay that, to release your burdened spirit from its flayed guilt ridden state you lose. Christ is the only way that you can find peace. No pope or priest can forgive you your sins. They are not gods and there is nothing in the Bible that supports this.

Is it not the fact that many religious institutions focus on the Mosaic law that religion is in such drastic decline. Law keeping cannot be an external stone written obligation, it has to be an internal heart changed directive.

Gamaliel’s advice “So in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone. Let them go! For if their purpose or endeavor is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop them. You may even find yourselves fighting against God.” At this, they yielded to Gamaliel. They called the apostles in and had them flogged. Then they ordered them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and released them.” Acts 5:38-40 (BSB)

Gamaliel’s advice some 2000 years ago to the Sanhedrin reverberates truth through the centuries and dams the religious institutions still based on the Mosaic law. It is truth that the temple model is based on an integrated institutionalised system that is failing in many ways. If the modern church “of quasi-Christians” do not realign themselves with Christ’s law the decline within the religion will be a downward spiral. The focus has to be aligned with the gospel and mystery of Christ.

When our focus is on keeping a set of rules and regulations we forget to love. Christ’s command is so much bigger than simple law keeping.

The law of Moses was written on stone but the law of Christ is written on your heart. The law of Moses guides your mind whereas the law of Christ guides your soul and your emotions.

heart-brain

The Mosaic law is an external awareness which we are trying to internalise whereas the law of Christ is an internal rebirth which finds its fruition in external actions.

Maybe Rick Warren, in today’s passage (day 16) purposely wrote focusing on the love we should have for our fellow Christians and co-inhabitants of this earth. When I read this passage it vexed me because it does not focus primarily on our love for God. Rick does in the passage mention that the prime directive is love for God. We have to learn to love God first, we have to learn and fully understand the gospel of Christ. We have to have a realignment purpose, recognition of our sins, and have seeked and found God to have experienced a rebirth or else we cannot love in the way God expects us to love the co-inhabitants of this earth.

If our love for our neighbour is based on law keeping it fails at the outset. Law keeping turns love into charity. Go and read what law keeping did to 1 Corinthians 13 in the King James version of the Bible and you will see what I mean. (http://biblehub.com/kjv/1_corinthians/13.htm). The problem was that when the King James version of the Bible was originally written and you seriously got all these people to start loving each other and looking out for each other the Roman Catholic Church and the Church of England would have been de-institutionalised.

Compare the Charity version of 1 Corinthians 13 in the KJV with current translations. Included below is the Berean Bible version here for ease of reference;

You have to totally submit to Christ for him to enter your heart and write his law on it. When that has happened you do not need to keep the law to love your neighbour, it becomes a natural out flowing of your existence.

Forget about trying to love your neighbour. Start by truly knowing our triune God, ask him to take out the biggest meanest knife his got and write Christ’s law on your heart. Now when you have cried your way through that pain every person you meet can and will be naturally loved by you.

Day 15 ~ The Purpose Driven Life ~ The lifeblood of our family is the Spirit

Day 15 ~ The Purpose Driven Life ~ Formed for God’s  Family.

When you answer the trumpet call by Christ you enter into the family of the triune God. As Paul puts it in Ephesians 4:4 “There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, and one baptism; one God and Father of all who is overall and through all and in all.”

Our human ego just naturally calls for acclamations of works. There is no value in this.
Jesus said in Matthew 6:1-4 “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honoured by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”

You have received already the biggest gift father could possibly bestow on you. Your righteousness through Christ is complete. How can any reward ever equal that?

Walk worthy of your calling!

Your identity is in Christ and we all bear one surname DoC (Disciple of Christ)
Ephesians 4:1-7
“No matter where you find yourself or who you are do not diminish the awareness of your “in-Christ-ness!”. Your complete existence is defined and confined in Him. Let the essence and detail of your life flow from the consciousness of your true identity and were as defined in Him.
The fabric of your existence and makeup are now meekness and tenderness which enables you to show compassion in seemingly impossible situations, it draws the breath of love and laughter from your inner being, always carrying the shared burden with one another in an environment where love rules supreme.
Be ever vigilant to guard your oneness in spirit. We are prisoners of peace. We confirm the fact that there is only one body; the lifeblood of our family is the Spirit.
Our expectation identifies us in Christ. We have chosen a singular path with no alternatives. We bear the same surname. “DoC
We are employed by the same Boss; we all share the same faith, and our baptism says the same thing.
There is only one God. He is and remains the creator and ultimate father of the universe. We are because He is. He is present in all; he is above all, through all and in all. In Him, we live and move and have our very being.
The gift of Christ gives dimension to grace and defines our individual life values.” (Para Mirror Bible.)

The gift of God, wrapped up in the achievement of Christ, disarms every idea of reward!

God’s gift to us was Christ. What reward would you need beyond Christ.

Your luvacta witnesses the prompting infusion of the Spirit.
